Today, on 8 April, representatives of the sports community were awarded on the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace in Kharkiv.
First Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Novak presented the athletes with the Certificates of Honour of the Executive Committee of the City Council and the Mayor's Commendation. Among the awardees are Olympic champions, Honoured Masters of Sports of Ukraine, coaches, teachers of sports institutions, etc.
Oleksandr Novak noted that the citizens are proud of the achievements of Kharkiv athletes who continue to win at the national and international levels in difficult war times. In addition, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia, many Kharkiv athletes have been defending Ukraine on the front line.
"During the war that russia has unleashed against us, the word 'peace' sounds completely different. Now, the biggest dream of all Ukrainians is that peace will come to our land as soon as possible. I am confident that thanks to the heroic soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and our daily work, we will get the long-awaited victory," said the First Deputy Mayor.
