Unique arena-transformer will have been built till Eurobasket championship in Kharkiv

The construction of a multipurpose sports complex-transformer, which will host Eurobasket 2015, will begin in 2013 in Kharkiv.

Oleksij Chubarov, the director of marketing and sport promotion project Department informed about it during on air on the TV-channel “OTB” on November, 22.

According to him, the complex will be built "from scratch". Presumably the construction will start in the area of "Metalist" stadium to use available infrastructure that was set up for Euro 2012. Arena will seat up to 15 thousand of fans.

Main structural feature of the complex will be the fact that in a few hours it will be transformed from a basketball arena to volleyball, playground for exhibitions or a concert hall.

Besides, functionality of the complex will allow to place a large number of sections, clubs and gyms here, as well as conference facilities.

According to Oleksij Chubarov, the construction will take about 12-14 months. He specified that during the construction of the arena all the requirements of FIBA for safety of players and spectator will be taken into account.

"During Euro 2012 Kharkiv city showed itself to be prepared in the sphere of medicine, transport,hotel chain and other infrastructure facilities. Today, the city has well-organized infrastructure and integrated team. We know what to do and how to do it. Next year we will be able to hold championships in other kinds of sport in our city. Our goal is to the make Kharkiv sportive capital of Ukraine,” - the director of the department stated.

According to Oleksij Chubarov, Kharkiv remains the only city out of other six candidate cities, who has already approved the concept of the event.
