A hybrid solar power plant was installed at the Kharkiv City Clinical Hospital.
It will provide uninterrupted power supply for the needs of more than 11,000 patients with cardiovascular diseases annually. The station consists of 269 solar panels and is equipped with 150 kWh batteries. This will cover up to 100% of the hospital's needs during the day and ensure stable operation of critical departments such as cardiology and intensive care even during power outages.
The equipment was installed as part of a UNDP project funded by the Norwegian government. At the official handover ceremony, which took place today, 27 March, Mayor Ihor Terekhov thanked the international partners for their support of Kharkiv and noted that the power plant will allow the hospital to save about UAH 1.5 million annually. According to him, the city will use these funds for the development of the medical institution.
‘Thank you for supporting our city! It is very important for us that the power supply system works without failures, because people's lives depend on it. I hope that such equipment will appear in all hospitals in Kharkiv,’ said the mayor.
The event was also attended by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide and Norwegian Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion Tonje Brenna. They said that in total, the Norwegian government's support programme envisages the installation of solar power plants in 13 institutions in Kharkiv - eight hospitals and five schools.
In his turn, UNDP Resident Representative Jaco Silje noted that Norway is a reliable partner that systematically supports Ukraine. According to him, a total of USD 115 million has been invested in this project. A portion of which was used to ensure Kharkiv's energy independence.
