Third underground school opened in Kharkiv The third full-fledged underground school started working today, 21 April, in Kharkiv.

This school was built in the Osnovyansky district at the expense of the city budget. It is equipped with everything necessary for quality and safe education. There are four classrooms, recreation areas, a cafeteria, a medical room, and a resource room. The educational process takes place in two shifts. Students are provided with free hot meals, medical care and can seek support from a psychologist.

During the opening ceremony, Mayor Igor Terekhov emphasised that the school fully meets the needs of the neighbourhood in which it was built.

‘This school is small. Why is it needed here? Because this is a neighbourhood that is far from the city centre, from the metro, where we have such schools. But the need is very significant. When I was here earlier, we met with parents and teachers and agreed that we would build such a school. It is designed for 377 pupils, which is almost 90% of the children who live here,’ the mayor said.

Ihor Terekhov also said that another underground school will be opened in Shevchenkivskyi district in the near future, after which about 10,000 students will be covered by offline education in Kharkiv. The city is currently home to about 60,000 school-age children.

‘We are building three more underground schools. We plan that children will be able to study in them at the beginning of the new school year,’ the mayor added.
